Obedience Training

Flint River Retrievers offers a Basic Obedience Course which is the foundation for all future training. Pups are taught basic commands through repitition and reward. They must be at least 6 months old and have all current vaccinations. Depending upon the development of the puppy, the program should take 4 to 6 weeks. We will work with the owner to make the puppy's transition back to the family a successful one.

Obedience Training Courses are $475 which includes training, boarding, and care.

Advanced Training

We take any retriever for training after they're 6 months old. Some of our clients have already gotten their puppies off to a good start with lots of marked retreivers and some basic obedience, although this is not mandatory. In the first month, he will be obedience-trained, have lots of marked dummy retrieves, and be introduced to birds, gunfire, and water. At the end of the first month, we will be able to evaluate yoru dog's ability and predict the training level that you may expect your dog to achieve.

 
Started Dogs

Started Dogs are trained to deliver hand, somewhat steady, and will have had lots of marks thrown for them. They will understand hunting scenarios and are ready to start hunting. It normally takes 3 to 4 months to get a dog to this level of training.

 
Finished Dogs

Finished Dogs have had all of the basic training and have also gone into some advanced handling drills. They can perform multiple marked retrieves and blind retrieves. It will take most dogs 6 to 8 months to advance to this level of training.
